Health and Personal Responsibility

I was working on a different post this week about October Unprocessed, which I do hope to finish and share, except that this week took an unforeseen twist, and in the midst of the craziness, I’m using the blog to write, and get out some things that have been mulling in my head.

My message tonight is brief.  Take care of yourself and your loved ones.  We may not have the power to prevent an illness from befalling us, and in fact, much of life is out of our hands.  And, despite our best efforts, some surprises (both good and bad) may come our way to challenge us.  But we have the power to make daily choices about our health, and these choices do have ramifications.

We have the power to choose to eat a well balanced, well rounded diet to nurture our bodies and souls.

We have the power to choose to be active, and challenge ourselves and each other.

We have the power to be mindful and live in the moment.

We have the power to deal with stress in the midst of chaos and tune into what our needs are.

We have the power to choose to laugh and celebrate life (even when faced with less than favorable circumstances).

We have the power to make it to regular health screenings and know our risk and family history for certain illnesses.

We have the power to make choices that will affect our well being, as well as the well being of others, and THAT is where personal responsibility comes in.  I have learned in life that ignorance is not bliss, and it is better to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to health.

So give yourself a gift, and your loved ones as well.  Feel empowered and hopeful and do something about your health and wellness.  Because you can….in spite of all the uncertainty in the world, and the twists and turns that may befall you, there is something you can do…so DO IT!  TODAY!  NOW!  Don’t wait!
